TOMO launched as a magazine shop out of a refurbished bus which was stripped out of its seats and replaced with shelves to showcase independent publications from around the world.
Today TOMO also operates a brick-and-mortar location in the heart of Montrose in Houston, TX. Home to a collection of magazines, printed and design goods. TOMO currently stocks publications from Gato Negro (Mexico), Ediciones (Chile), and expanding selections continuously.
A project space within its stationary locations serves as a home for artists, organizations and publications to share their vision. Artists from different mediums have showcase their work including Joel Hernandez (Mexico), Martin Ivy (Peru) and more to be added.
TOMO in its mobile, brick-and-mortar, and digital forms exemplifies the concept of a magazine: a multitude of ideas, visuals, collaborations and knowledge all bounded together for the enjoyment of curious minds.
TOMO was founded by Vico Tadeo Chong, born in Mexico and building on a dream of opening a magazine shop reminiscent of his favorite childhood shops: papelerias and magazine stands. His partner Keiwing Chong, born in Venezuela shares his passion for design and has collaborated in the launch of this endeavor.
