Renowned novel Like Water For Chocolate, by Laura Esquivel, is finally coming to the small screen.
According to Deadline, Endemol Shine North America is developing the novel into an English-language series.
Like Water for Chocolate follows Tita de la Garza, the youngest daughter in a family living in Mexico at the turn of the century.
Tita challenges patriarchal tradition to be with Pedro, the love of her life, and sets down a path to shape her destiny touched by magical realism.
Each chapter features a recipe. While Esquivel adapted her work herself into a critically acclaimed Spanish-language film in 1992 of the same name, a television treatment of the novel will allow for more detail and nuance that is usually cut for time purposes in filmmaking.
