YAYI
Everyday clothes for everybody. Collaboratively made in Puerto Rico.
San Juan, Puerto Rico
EST 2018
YAYI is a slow fashion brand for men & women produced in Puerto Rico following conscious practices. Garments are made in linen or cotton and sewn in small batches in the studio or via cottage industry seamstresses locally. Construction is made to last generations; pushing away consumerism and keeping clothes away from landfills. Yayi believes fashion manufacturing can be possible again in Puerto Rico by reinforcing the tradition of tailoring and passing it on to a younger generation of crafters.

Yazmín (Yayi) Pérez calls herself a "Lost islander, world traveler and European at heart". Passionate about methods of construction and creative labor acquired during her studies in Italy (Polimoda Firenze, Politecnico di Milano) and NYC (Fashion Institute of Technology), she believes fashion manufacturing can be possible again in Puerto Rico by reinforcing the tradition of tailoring and passing it on to a younger generation of crafters focused on sustainability before the information disappears and environmental issues grow. Yayi Pérez has been part of the Fashion Department faculty at Escuela de Artes Plásticas in San Juan and has also worked developing the garments of other brands in the island. Yayi is part of a community of local designers driven by sustainable practices and quality craftsmanship; a movement they call MODO CONSCIENTE.
